- NASCAR 2005
1.1 NASCAR 2005 does an excellent job of incorporating the rules of racing that govern NASCAR. It is imperative that each driver learns the rules and also read the rules that FLASHPOINT governs with. NASCAR 2005 may issue penalties that you think are unfair. The penalties that are levied by the game and the final standings are official and will not be adjusted.
- General Rules
2.1 During practice sessions prior to qualifying all drivers must follow basic guidelines of entering and exiting pit lane. Do not enter the racing line directly from pit lane enter as noted by the game when it is clear which is usually at the beginning of the backstretch see section 11.2. Drivers are expected to prepare for their race and be able to maintain a "low" and "high" line for each track. This applies during all green and yellow flag conditions. If you make a mistake and hit a wall or catch the apron and your momentum is slowed do not pull back onto the racing line make sure you are not damaged and can get back up to race speed before entering the racing line to avoid a potential wreck or contact with another driver. Pay the small price of losing a position or two. If you are involved in wreck due to entering the racing line when not at speed or damaged it will be reviewed and dealt with appropriately.
2.2 It is important that each driver becomes aware of their surroundings on the track and use their mirrors and spotter but also be aware that the spotter is not always correct so use visuals and also use your F-2 key. We race in a very competitive environment and respect for one another on and off the track helps make a successful League. When issues do arise handle the situation in a professional manner by contacting your Admin or RS. If an issue arises from an on track incident or a chat violation occurs the Admins will deal with the situation after review of the race and chat log. We do not tolerate any type of retaliatory action by any driver after an incident. If a driver retaliates by targeting and wrecking another driver especially under cautions will be dealt with severely with possible expulsion from the League after review.
- Attendance Policy
3.1 A No-Show is merely a record of a driver not showing up for a scheduled Flashpoint event. The driver has the responsibility to notify the division RS and ARS that he will miss a race to avoid being shown as a No-Show. The driver will receive 65 provisional points for that week.
3.2 A driver with three (3) consecutive No-Shows will be placed on inactive status. A driver on inactive status may have his division driving slot permanently reassigned to another driver.
3.3 The CRS will send notification via e-mail to a driver that has been put on inactive status. The driver has three days to respond prior to being put on permanent inactive status. After three days, the inactive driver is put on permanent inactive status, and must re-apply to Flashpoint to be reinstated to the series. The division slot may be assigned to another driver at this time.
3.4 A driver will be granted a LOA only if he is going to miss 3 or more races in succession during a season. A LOA request shall be made via e-mail to the series CRS. The series CRS will confirm to the driver via e-mail the activation of his LOA with a carbon copy to the division RS and ARS.
- Chat/Autochat
4.1 We do not tolerate any flaming or negative chat and will not be tolerated under any circumstances. We have procedures in place to deal with on track situations and have an open door policy. Please refrain from saying something you will regret later Flashpoint will not tolerate chat violations and will deal with the situation promptly.
Flaming is any badgering, swearing, constant chatter in reference to an incident on the track. The best thing to do is add "I'm Sorry" or "No Problem" if you respond saying "TY" or "Thank You Moron" is unacceptable and is grounds for severe punishment or expulsion. It is better to wait until after the race save your chat and replay and contact you RS or Admin. Make sure when you contact your Race Steward or Admin that you have a just complaint do not waste the Administrations time with frivolous issues.
No one wants to hear unnecessary chat use auto chat to communicate to other drivers regarding on track issues.
4.2 Personalize your auto chat messages in N 2003 so that others can identify your messages as coming from you.
For example, John Smith would change the default line of, "Pitting, Pass High", to, "John Smith, Pitting This Lap".
Please consider using these suggested Auto chat messages for communication especially during green flag racing. Keep chat short and simple do not use long winded messages during the race it is very distracting to drivers who are concentrating on the race etc.
1. (Driver name), Pitting This Lap
2. (Driver name), Exiting Pit
3. (Driver name), Pass Low-Left
4. (Driver name), Pass High-Right
5. (Driver name), Going Low-Left
6. (Driver name), Going High-Right
7. (Driver name), Stay in line work together
8. (Driver name), Thank You
9. (Driver name), Caution-Slowing
10. (Driver name), Good Luck From (team name)
4.3 During qualifying there is no chat until the Qualifying Session is Complete message appears.
Save your comments until after this point.
Chat is closed but to auto Chat messages as stated in 4.2,During the race. NO UNNECESSARY CHAT DURING THE RACE.
Unnecessary chat is deemed as anything not pertaining to an action you will be taking on the track. Notifying fellow drivers regarding pitting and passing procedures in considered proper racing etiquette and is required. The only reason this type of chat is permitted is because it replaces hand signals that we do not have in the sim.
All other chat is really unnecessary and unrealistic. You can't talk to other drivers in a "real" racecar can you?
Whisper will be allowed to other drivers, This is the only chat out side of 4.2 that is allowed between drivers, Keep in Mind Flaming under a whisper to another can and will bring a chat violation.
4.4 Any driver that gets a "chat violation" penalty will be penalized accordingly (inci 1, inci 2, inci 3 of season, etc.).
- Warp
5.1 Please use Control-C monitoring during races. This will give you a real time report of your latency, quality and skew. If you are in the “red”, your connection is poor and is likely affecting your fellow racers ability to compete safely. During a race, if you notice you are warping (all the other cars disappear), or other drivers tell you that you are warping, you are expected to take appropriate action to ensure that you do not adversely affect other drivers. You should either pull into the pit and wait for your connection to improve, drop to the back of the field, and/or let any driver behind you pass without racing them. If complaints continue about a warping driver and that driver does not take the appropriate action on his/her own, at the discretion of a "Race Steward" you may be asked to pit and wait for your connection to improve.
5.2 If a warping driver continues to race despite a request to pit by the Race Steward, the Race Steward may eject that driver. This may seem harsh, but again, the goal is to have a clean, fun, safe race, and it is everyone's responsibilities to make that happen. If your connection does not improve after a reasonable amount of time, please consider retiring from the race. Real racers have technical problems. So can sim racers. These rules regarding warping driver are consistent with the rules of this league. We are here to have a clean, courteous and fun racing experience, where having fun is more important than a finishing position. Standard league penalties apply for warp related incidents, and heavier penalties or race suspensions will be levied for warping drivers who have been notified or warned, and do not take appropriate action or ignore a Race Stewards request to take the appropriate action
5.3 It is the responsibility of each driver to assure the league and his fellow competitors that he has the best connection possible. Warp incidents are reason enough to be fined.
- Disconnects
6.1 If you get disconnected during a race after the green flag, you may re-enter the race only one time. If you're disconnected a second time, your day is over. Do not reconnect if you reconnect a second time it will be a basic rule violation. In the event of a mass boot (more then 50% of the drivers) or server crash, the race will be thrown out and no points will be scored if less than 25% of the race has been completed. The Admins will use discretion in these situations and make a final ruling on the matter.
6.1.1 Drivers that disconnect manually or have connection issues prior to the race going green will be allowed to race. Drivers that disconnect manually or have connection issues prior to the race going green will save their replay and supply it to the CRS upon request if needed. Drivers that are booted or have connection issues after the race has gone green, can reconnect one time only same as before. The top three finishers from each division will be required to submit the results in zip file form. If the results are not supplied to the CRS by 10:00 AM PT penalties will be imposed. Drivers who disconnect manually and fail to supply the CRS with the race results/replay are subject to DQ. Drivers who finish in the top three under normal conditions and fail to supply the race results will receive a 50 pt. deduction. Naming Convention: In order to keep track of who sends in race results drivers will name the race export in the following manner and send in a zip file. "LukeS-PRO-!2-20-03"
- Warm-Up
7.1 There will be a five-minute warm-up before every race. Chatting during warm-up should be limited to auto chat messages. Warm ups are usually short and don't provide much time for practice. You are responsible for doing one thing during warm up. Locate your pit. Is it in the front stretch? Is it at the end of pit road?
- Qualifying
8.1 There will be NO chatting allowed during qualifying. It is a distraction to other drivers wait to make remarks after the qualifying session has ended. If you use Game Commander or other voice recognition software, please consider turning your microphone off during qualifying in an attempt to prevent inadvertent messages during qualifying.
- Pace Laps
9.1 Stagger from the car in front of you. Generally, odd position cars (1st,3rd,5th) should be in the low line, and even position cars (2nd,4th,6th) should be in the high line. Remember though, lap cars may affect this
9.2 No scrubbing of tires it does not have an impact. Find your proper place in line and stay put. Misplaced drivers causing black flags are subject to a basic penalty.
- Starts/Restarts
10.1 The most critical times of the race are at the starts and restarts of the race and we can avoid many unnecessary incidents and cautions by following the rules as outlined. Before going green at the start of the race everyone needs to line up respectively and maintain a gap of 0.5 to 1.5 sec interval between you and the car in front until the green flag drops. For double & single file starts and restarts, stagger until the final straight before a restart.
10.2 Once you are on the final straight before a start or restart, you should move into the proper position in the lineup. We encourage that all drivers stagger while under caution with the leader or odd number positions positioned to the left or towards the bottom of the track, (i.e. if your position 1, 3, 5 etc.) All cars that are even maintain stagger towards the right if your position is (i.e. 2, 4, 6 etc.) Staggering helps decrease possible incidents such as rear ending another driver. Double file restarts are a part of racing and allows drivers a chance to make up a lap however overaggressive driving is not tolerated if an incident takes out the leaders.
10.3 You should under no circumstances be alongside the leading car as you cross the line. It is against the rules to PASS -OR PULL ALONGSIDE TO PASS ANYONE prior to CROSSING the start finish line unless: A. You are "waved by" by the car in front of you, i.e., "pass me low" B. You are avoiding an accident or a car with a blown motor. If you are requested to pass before you cross the start/finish line, you should pass to the outside. If you pass to the inside you will receive a black flag.
10.4 Suggestions regarding Starts and Restarts, which help, avoid incidents and unnecessary Black Flags. After the green flag is dropped, your goal should be to fall in line behind the car in front and get through the first corner safely. STAY OUT OF TROUBLE! Passing is allowed, within the rules, but be mindful of the situation. Again, this is the time to line up and not the time to pass. Turn 1; lap 1 pile ups will not be tolerated. On balance, no one should pass until the backstretch of the first lap. This isn't a rule, but a guideline. You can't win if you don't make it out of turn 2 on the first lap. If you can clear the guy in front of you before the turn, then go ahead. But if you can't CLEAR him, don't even try. Any driver who initiates a caution within two laps of a start or restart will be subject to a "doubled penalty" for the infraction that occurs. Cautions breed more cautions. Be careful on the start and restarts and let things settle in.
- Cautions
11.1 When the yellow flag is displayed, drivers should try to maintain their position and race speed until you are on the front stretch. Do not start to back off before you have exited turn 4 and cross the S/F line unless you are attempting to avoid a wreck When a caution comes out it is not a time to take advantage of another drivers misfortune follow the rules as outlined. If we all use the same spot on the track to start slowing down, we can drastically reduce the number of incidents that occur when a yellow flag is displayed. When you take the yellow flag at the start/finish line, don't slow down suddenly. Please ease off gradually until you've reached the back straight. The leader should continue at 90% normal speed until approaching the pace car and then decelerate smoothly down to pace speed.
11.2 All drivers will agree that when the yellow flag comes out they will hold their position without passing until they cross the line taking the yellow. It is acceptable to race back to the line if a yellow flag is displayed with 10 or fewer laps left in a race. If you are in the midst of a passing attempt when the yellow flag is displayed, then try to finish the pass safely. If you haven't started your pass then fall in line.. You may pass another car if he/she is off the pace, or grants permission to do so. The leader can allow lapped cars to get a lap back if done in a safe manner if you are more than 2 seconds behind the leader do not expect the leader to slow down to a point it will cause further problems on the track. It is the leaders responsibility to maintain the safe speeds to avoid further incidents and line the field up correctly behind the pace car. There is absolutely no excuse for crashing into another car while under caution. Anyone violating this rule will be dealt with severely.
11.3 We have guidelines in place to avoid further incidents when a caution comes out maintain speed until you cross the S/F line any incidents occurring while racing back to take the yellow will have penalties levied. Under cautions use your F2 key to avoid hitting cars that are running slower and are behind the pace car line up as quickly and safely as possible and maintain stagger. Anyone plowing into a stationary car at full throttle will be dealt with harshly. If you are in the vicinity of a wreck when the yellow flag is displayed, ease off the pace slightly to give yourself room to maneuver in case you need to avoid a wreck.
- Pitting
12.1 Pitting and exiting the pits is a crucial part of racing and we must follow certain guidelines to avoid on track incidents and penalties. First of all "Fake Pitting" is not allowed it causes more problems than any advantage gained by using this tactic. Incidents may occur from this tactic and also Black Flags may be issued to unsuspecting drivers do not "Fake Pit" and avoid severe penalties. Use the F2 key when pitting to avoid passing other cars that are still on the track. Try to pit in a timely manner do not wait until the last minute and then jump down to pit which may cause a driver to get a penalty such as a Black Flag it may look good on TV but it irritates other drivers. Pit entry and exit rules will be posted in all weekly DM's - they are to be followed to the letter without exception. KNOW THE TRACK PIT SPEED. There is no excuse for not knowing.
12.2 You must stay inside the yellow line after you have exited the pits. Your crew chief will inform you when it is okay to merge into traffic. Please note he says, “Merge when you can” which doesn't mean dive directly into heavy traffic! Read the weekly Drivers Meeting for specific merging/blend rules for each track. Use your mirrors and F2 to help guide you in your attempt to merge safely. When exiting the pits, all drivers will re-enter the track on the backstretch after turn 2
12.3 NO STAGGERING THE APRON. ALL 4 TIRES UNDER! This goes for pre-race practice as well as during the race. Do not enter the track before the backstretch under any circumstance. Blend lines - Know the league rules on entering and exiting the pits for each track and practice those entries and exits as much as you practice qualifying and race laps. You can significantly improve your track position by flawless pit entry and exit technique. If everyone knows the proper pit entry and exit procedures, pit accidents can be eliminated.
12.4 When you are preparing to enter the pits, drivers must move to the low groove while on the backstretch before entering turn 3 if they are to pit. Doing so is the accepted signal to drivers behind you that you are going to pit. You must not assume that everyone will see your chat message that you are going to pit. When entering the pits, maintain your line on the inside of the two lines to the right of pit road. (The one closest to the pits) Make certain you enter the pits safely. If you do not enter safely, NR2005 has provisions for taking care of you via the black flag or holding you in the pits while you serve your penalty. Know the rules! Cars should maintain a 0.5 to 1.0 sec interval when entering the pits under yellow flag conditions to avoid pit incidents due to " warp" or driver error
12.5 When exiting the pits, maintain your line on the outside of the two lines to the right of pit road. (The one furthest from the pits) Make sure you pit on the appropriate lap(s) only cars on the lead lap can pit on the 1st lap the pits open. Cars that are a lap down can pit thereafter. The only exception to this rule is when a car is a lap down within the ten lap rule he or she must pit or do a drive thru the second lap by.
- Racing
13.1 All drivers must be able to drive each track safely and responsibly. Erratic, unsafe driving will not be tolerated. Failure to Control Car Resulting in Caution Periods: A driver responsible for bringing out 2 yellows must retire from the race. Drivers staying out after 2 cautions/incidents: lose all points for the race. Exceptions: A driver's self-spin caused by the actions of wrecking or out of control cars ahead of the driver. Be advised: If you are uncertain after the second incident as to whether or not you caused both, you should take it for granted you caused them and retire from the race. Failure to retire can and will result in a loss of race points. If a driver causes an incident with another car and a yellow does not come out the offending party will count the incident toward the 2 Spin/Incident rule. If the incident is brought to the attention of the Admins it will be reviewed in a normal fashion and penalties will be issued as per the rules..
13.2 If a driver cuts down on a car behind him, the front driver is at fault... it could be considered blocking. This action will be deemed a basic infraction penalty. This is a non-contestable judgment call made by the CRS based on several prior laps of replay.
13.3 Safe Pass Attempts are the responsibility of the car making the pass, as long as no contact is made, no penalties.
13.3.1 If a driver has position going into a corner, then pushes up and makes contact and the other car spins, it will be considered as a "Failure to Hold Low line" penalty and the driver will be penalized accordingly (inci 1, inci 2, inci 3 of season, etc.).
13.3.2 If a driver does not have position going into a corner and makes a safe pass, there will be no penalty. However, if there is contact of any kind, even if the other driver does not spin, there will be a penalty issued. This will be considered as a "Unsafe Pass Attempt", and the penalty will be an automatic 50 point deduction. Repeat offenders will be dealt with severely.
13.4 Restrictor Plate Tracks... Driving below the white/yellow apron line to advance your position is not allowed. If a car is running on the bottom of the track, you are not allowed to place your left side tires below this line to attempt a pass or advance your position. Forcing a car on the inside, below this line is also not allowed, and would bring you a basic infraction penalty.
13.5 It is acceptable to race back to the line if a yellow flag is displayed with 10 or fewer laps left in a race
13.6 If a driver bumps another car from behind, the car behind is at fault... guilty of a bump and run. This action will be deemed a basic infraction penalty. This is a non-contestable judgment call made by the CRS / ACRS Team, based on several prior laps of replay.
13.7 "Bump drafting" or "moving" another racer, while exciting on TV, is simply not acceptable behavior in online racing. Bump drafting is illegal.
- Lapped Cars
14.1 Lapped cars are encouraged to let cars on the lead lap pass. Lapped cars are defined as cars "not on the lead lap". Car's down a lap or more have same rights as every other car on the track in regards to being allowed to race, it's the responsibility of the leader to make a safe pass. Lapped cars can get a lap back if within the guidelines as noted in section 10.2 when a caution comes out. When a caution comes out with ten laps or less to go drivers that are 1 lap down must enter pit road the second lap by after the leaders had a chance to pit. Lapped cars do not have to stop they can do a drive thru. If a driver who is a lap down does not pit is subject to a basic rule violation penalty.
- Damaged Cars
15.1 If you spin out or are damaged in an accident, try to get the car off to the apron as quickly and cautiously as possible, this means WAITING for all racing traffic to get past you before doing so. Do not try to turn your spun car around in middle of the track in the middle of traffic. This almost always leads to a disaster! Anyone crossing traffic while damaged and causing an accident will be subject to penalties When damaged and/or unable to move due to a blown tire, press CTRL+T to initiate a tow back to your pits. Stay low or off the track when trying to limp back to the pits for repairs. If you're less than 75% of race speed, you should strongly consider retiring from the race On tracks 1 mile or greater park your car if you lost 4th gear. Drop to the apron and keep car off the racing line. Failure to follow these guidelines will result in a basic infraction penalty.
- Post Race Procedures
16.1 All drivers will proceed to their pit stalls after taking the checkered flag. Incidents after the checkered flag DO count against you, so do not park your car on the track or ram other cars.
The scoring provided by Nascar 2005 will be deemed final.
Connection problems can create situations where scoring may be altered without reason. In this case, all drivers must accept the changes and race final race results.
The top 3 finishers are required to export and email the race results to the CRS within one half hour of the finish of the race. If the CRS does not receive results from all of the top three finishers within 24 hours max time, a 25 point basic infraction penalty will be issued to each of the top three finishers of that race that DID NOT submit the exported results as required for a first infraction.
Successive violations will be assessed a 50 point penalty for each occurrence, and may increase in severity as the CRS and/or Committee deem necessary.
- Penalties
17.1 All penalties will be handed out in a timely and fair manner. A database will be maintained on all incidents for the entire session. Penalty amounts greater than those listed below may be imposed if the CRS deems necessary. These penalties are per race. Race suspension penalties will carry over into the subsequent season. Any questions in regards to penalties should be addressed to the CRS.
17.2 Flaming or improper Chat;
17.2.1 First Offense: 100 point deduction and possible 1 race suspension.
17.2.2 Second Offense: 100 pt. deduction and 1 race suspension.
17.2.3 Third Offense: Suspension for the remainder of the season
17.3 Basic Rule Violations Automatic 25 pt. deduction.
17.3.1. Spin/Incident Any driver who spins and involves another car will receive a basic penalty. This excludes drivers trying to avoid an incident that has occurred in front of them etc.
17.3.2. Failure to pace correctly and or jumping or break checking the field on starts and restarts.
17.3.3. Lead lap cars racing back to line with 11 or more laps to go. If it is blatant that a driver knowingly passed he or she will be penalized. This excludes lapped cars trying to get laps back as noted in rules.
17.3.4. Lapped cars failing to pit with 10 laps or less to go will receive a basic point deduction. Lapped cars are required to pit second time around after lead lap cars use their option to pit when pit lane is opened as noted by spotter etc.
The CRS reserves the right to deem an incident a "Basic Infraction" which may not be noted above.
17.4 Violating League Rules or Unacceptable Driving Habits exception to rules below will be retaliation which will carry a loss of race points or suspension and probation for remainder of season.
17.4.1 First Offense: A written warning will be issued.
17.4.2 Second Offense: A 25 point deduction will be issued.
17.4.3 Failure to park after second incident: A race disqualification and loss of all points for the race will be issued.
17.4.4 If any incident is deemed serious enough penalty points may be higher and may include race suspension/s. A second race disqualification for failure to park after two incidents will be subject to race suspension/s.
If an incident occurs within two laps of a start/restart the penalty will be doubled and no warning will be issued if first incident of the race.
- Protest/Appeals Of Fines
18.1 The protest must be filed within 24 hours after the race and must be accompanied by a replay. The protest should clearly state the situation leading up to the protested action, including the replay time and the lap in which it occurred.
The appeal of Fine must be filed within 24 hours after the leveling of the fine. The Appeal of Fine should clearly state the situation leading up to the fined action, including the replay, time and the lap in which it occurred.
18.2 Replays will be submitted in ZIP format and should clearly show the situation leading up to the protested/fine appeal action as well as the consequences following it. A good guideline is 2 laps prior to and 1 lap after the incident. Some situations may require more, and the CRS may request additional footage or a replay from another source as appropriate.
18.3 The CRS will review the replay and may assess a fine or fines appropriate to the seriousness of the incident and the guidelines of the series. The driver being reviewed will receive a notification and be allowed to reply within 24 hours with an explanation, clip of the replay that supports his position, and a copy of the chat log if applicable. The replay will contain 2 prior laps and 1 lap after the incident in question, and be submitted in a zip format. In the event that a fine is assessed, the CRS will notify the driver who filed the protest, the driver being fined, and the official scorekeeper
18.4 All fines for each series will be posted with a description of the violation and the amount of the fine.
18.5 Be advised: The burden is on you, the protester, with regard to all the items in your complaint being valid and legitimate in the opinion of the CRS. Protests Without Merit: If the CRS decides a protest is baseless or groundless in whole or part, at the CRS' discretion, the protester may be penalized. Any fines issued that are based on baseless or groundless protests will not be reviewed or rescinded.
